Source Abstract is that ambiguous and extraordinary point when light and dark meet, and from which we are manifested and natured by that friction.

This sculpture is the ambiguous tangled spectrum of thoughts, feelings and sensations that begin in each of us as something primary: blue, red and yellow, three colours that provide the elementary source of a very dynamic spectrum we experience through our relationships with each other. It is the source of a vast painting palette from which we all apply and reapply how and what we see, an extraordinary abstract theme of our living, through which each day we grow and refine ourselves, through each other.

Our place in the world is defined by our actions towards others; the colour starts from one figure and never wraps itself. As we bind others onto us we become boundless, in several places at once, our essence realised through and with each other.

Under construction, coat hangers.

Whether you are on a corporate team, a neighbour, a volunteer coach, a parent or a stranger on the other side of the world, each of our stories is the product of its good parts, bad parts, lonely parts, scary parts, sad parts and wonderful parts. Those stories warp the contours of our world as much as they tell us who we are, in the moment we stop and really look.

The larger version

As built, it is a three-foot cube of intertwined coat hangers holding three torqued two-dimensional figures, each revealed by yarn extending from the others. The version I want to build stands eight feet, in steel, with thin coloured aluminium replacing the yarn, at a scale a person walks through rather than around. It is designed to be altered by the people inside it: some connections broken, new ones made, the work different at the end of a day than at the start.
